D-Day Parade and Rotary BBQ

Bathurst Rotary will once again take part in the upcoming D-Day Celebration/Rotary BBQ, on the 6th of June at the Bathurst High School. This is a free event for the general public, sponsored by Rotary. We will be serving our remaining veterans and serving members of the North Shore (New Brunswick) Regiment, and the general public, after that morning’s D-Day Ceremony.

The winner of today’s speaking contest is Taylor Kennah. Taylor got 15 first place votes out of 20 sheets collected. Taylor will be going to Ottawa in early May for 4 days to attend the 65th Adventure In Citizenship Program. I’m sure she will be a great ambassador for our club and our region.

Guest Speaker: 3 BHS Students speaking in Rotary’s Adventure in Citizenship Program

Bathurst Rotary club has participated in this program for some 60 years; the winning student wins a speaking contest held at a Rotary meeting, speaking on What it means to be a Canadian Citizen. Bathurst Rotary sponsors the student to participate in the Rotary Adventure in Citizenship Program, in Ottawa, May 3, 2015 to May 6, 2015, along with students from across Canada sponsored by Canadian Rotary Clubs.

The participants in order of their presentations:

65th Annual Rotary Adventure in Citizenship Program

The Rotary club of Bathurst will be sponsoring one BHS student to attend the 2015 Adventure in Citizenship Program in Ottawa next spring (May 3 to May 6, 2015).  As always, we will hold a “speaking contest” at one of our Rotary lunch (February 16, 2015) and the members will select the winner of the contest and send him/her to Ottawa all expenses paid. The 3 BHS students participating to the “speaking contest” have to deliver a 5 minute speech on the same topic same topic ie. “What does it mean to be Canadian”.

Hello Rotarians,

The Rotary Scholarship committee has chosen the following 3 scholarship recipients for 2014

 

$500 BHS Rotary Scholarship:   Alexandra Erb  (930 Sycamore Avenue, Bathurst)

 

$500 ESN Rotary Scholarship:   Jean-Philippe Savoie  (440  Route 160, Allardville)

 

$500 “Morley Foran”  Rotary Scholarship:  Adam Kenny  (25 Basin Road, Bathurst)

 

These recipients have been chosen based on the following criteria:

1)      Academic achievement

2)      Enrolled in post-secondary studies

3)      Community involvement

4)      Extra-curricular activities

For the “Morley Foran” Rotary scholarship, we were also looking for somebody who has shown entrepreneurial skills or ambitions.

Chair person Honorary Colonel  Ian Oliver and our guest speaker Lieutenant Colonel Steven Bass. Steve spoke to us about the North Shore Regiment and history of the unit. It was very interesting and remembering our Veterans on “D” day which is celebrated on Saturday at the K C Irving with a BBQ put on by our Rotary Club. Look forward to seeing you all there.

Bathurst Rotarians,
June 7 will be the annual DDay BBQ at the KC Irving Center this year.
We will need cooks, servers, and cleaners.
Anyone able to help out should contact either Meredith Caissie city.tourism@bathurst.ca or Don McKay mailto:dj.mkay@live.com who will be putting together a schedule.
Tent will be set up at 9:30, “workers” will be needed from 10 am to 1:30 pm
